Grandchildren Commission

I have reached the life-size phase of the 6 grandchildren commission. All sculptures have been blocked in and are in various stages of development. All of the grandchildren have been grouped in pairs. Below is the sculpture pair that is the furthest along. Two cousins watering the garden together.

The other pairs are two cousins playing with a lizard and two cousins running to the pool together. This is going to be a fun group of sculpture. More photos to come soon!

Life-size “Second Star to the Right”

The months of work are finally over! Last week I completed the clay for the monument “Second Star to the Right”. I am happy with how it turned out. Its off to the molding department getting its first coats of rubber.

I hope we all can relate to this piece, I know I can. I grew up hearing many stories related to me by my Grandparents. Their experiences and examples will always be part of who I am. I hope I can leave a positive influence on my own children (and someday grandchildren). There is nothing greater that we will leave on this earth than our influence on others. I hope this sculpture will always be a symbol of that precious opportunity.

Second Star on the Right Clay

Second Star on the Right Clay

This is a photo of the just completed sculpture “Second Star on the Right”. This is the small scale model for the life-size sculpture to be completed soon.

The small model is currently being molded in the foundry. Once the mold is finished we will cast a wax replica and ship a copy to a sculpture enlargement company. They will digitally scan the wax and enlarge it to over six feet tall. The sculpture will be milled in foam and shipped back to us in Alpine. Once I have the foam I will spend a day or two carving additional detail into the foam. Next, I will cover the foam in clay and continue to sculpt the piece. the foam gives you a great jump start into the life-size piece. It saves a lot of time and clay.

I will post more photos of the project as it moves along.

Mark Twain Clay

Mark Twain Clay

I just finished the Mark Twain bust in clay.  It is in the mold making department receiving its first coats of silicon rubber.  The photo was taken a few days ago when the clay was about 75 % completed. I will be sure to post a completed bronze photo in the next few weeks.
